When I first started to try to make money online I did what many others have probably done and found my way to the big name successful bloggers like Darren Rowse’s Problogger blog (which I have foudn to be a consistent waste of my time) and John Chow (an incredible waste of my time of monumental proportions).
It wasn’t until I somehow stumbled upon the blogs of Vic Franqui (Blogger Unleashed), Courtney Tuttle and, most importantly, Grizzly Brears at Make Money Online For Beginners that I finally found a focussed plan of attack accompanied by an actual workable blueprint for consistently making money.
Visit their sites if you get nothing more out of reading my blog.
Since my early days I have bought webhosting, domains, set up Wordpress blogs, Blogger blogs, numerous other free blogs, Squidoo lenses, Hubpages and mini-sites. I have also been through the cycle of building backlinks to my site which is the most important part of getting the right visitors to your website.
All of these processes will be useful to anyone else starting out and you will discover that you will have to go through the same learning process to get started. At least, you will if you plan on owning your own websites.
My aim at the moment is to identify a niche that looks like it will be profitable and is relatively easy to rank well for. The process of creating content, keyword optimization and building backlinks - particularly building backlinks - occupies most of my time online. One of the key pieces of advice that I have taken to heart is to make sure you take some kind of action every day no matter how small it is. The prospect of building a network of websites that will start generating an income is a formidable task to take on and could defeat you before you begin if you try to do everything at once. Burn out becomes a real issue. Small bites will get the elephant eaten.
Every small step forward contributes to a much more vast online presence that continues to expand at an increasing rate. Momentum becomes a wondrous thing.
The point of this post, however, is just to say that there are many ways to make (and lose) money on the Internet. Before charging in and sinking your money or your faith in any particular method, cast your eyes around thoroughly first. Choosing the right guide(s) will fast-track your potential to earn a decent income or at least some pocket-money online.
